Official opening of Poche Centre

The new Poche Centre will be officially opened Wednesday 24 March 2010 by Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, Governor of NSW and Chancellor of The University of Sydney at the Mater Hospital Campus in North Sydney.

Located at 40 Rocklands Road, opposite the Mater Hospital, the centre is a purpose built, world class, integrated cancer treatment facility enabling the best possible care for melanoma patients, made possible by the generous donation of $40 million by philanthropist Mr Greg Poche. The Poche Centre is the new home of Melanoma Institute Australia, formerly the Sydney Melanoma Unit. New Poche Centre in North Sydney

The opening of the Poche Centre signals a new era in Australia’s ability to progress research, education and treatment of melanoma. The Poche Centre houses over 70 clinicians, clinical trials staff and researchers of the very highest level of expertise plus the largest melanoma patient database and integrated tumour bank in the world.

Designed by Daryl Jackson Robyn Dyke and constructed by AW Edwards, the building includes a 100 seat auditorium, six fully contained consulting suites which will house surgeons, dermatologists, oncologists and other allied health professionals, other educational facilities including large conference rooms, a small research space for our pathologists and a car park consisting of 2 levels which will greatly expand car parking facilities on the campus. The building will also house clinical trials, database, biospecimen and biostatistics groups which are core groups of staff who support the research effort, and represent our ongoing relationship with The University of Sydney and St Vincent's and Mater Health Sydney.
