The Melanoma Foundation as a charitable foundation of The University of Sydney is subject to the NSW Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (the Act).  

The Melanoma Foundation collects, manages, uses and discloses personal information in accordance with all relevant legislation and standards.

The Melanoma Foundation will:
  • only collect personal information for lawful purposes;
  • when reasonably possible, only collect personal information from the individual to who it relates;
  • only collect such information as is reasonably necessary;
  • notify the individual concerned when it collects personal information either at the time of collection or as soon as practicable thereafter;
  • state what the personal information will be used for;
  • state who will receive the personal information;
  • state if the collection is voluntary, and the consequences for individuals if it is not, or only in part, provided;
  • provide contact details regarding who to contact regarding access to and correction of the personal information;
  • take reasonable steps to ensure that personal information holdings are relevant, not excessive, accurate, up-to-date, complete and that the collection does not unreasonably intrude on the personal affairs of individuals;
  • retain personal information for no longer than is necessary and then dispose of it lawfully and securely;
  • protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, use, modification or disclosure or other misuse;
  • ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to ensure that personal information is not used or disclosed without authorisation by external service providers;
  • not disclose personal information outside the Foundation or its affiliated bodies except where:
o    the subject of information has consented to the disclosure, or has been notified of the likelihood of the disclosure; or
o    the Foundation is required by legislation, court order or other legally enforceable instrument and the request is not in an appropriate written form; or
o    disclosure is reasonably believed to be necessary to prevent or lessen a serious and imminent threat to the life or health of any person otherwise and to the extent permitted by the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998.
In no other circumstances will personal information be disclosed.

The following sets out how The Melanoma Foundation will deal with personal information related to the content and use of its website.

1. Collection of information

Information automatically logged
The Melanoma Foundation may make a record of your visit and log any of the following information for statistical and business purposes - the user's server address, the user's domain name, IP address, the date and time of the visit, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used.

If you send us a message we will record your e-mail address.
 
Cookies
A cookie is information that a website puts on your hard disk so that it can remember something about you at a later time. (More technically, it is information for future use that is stored by the server on the client side of a client/server communication.) It is possible to disable the accepting of cookies by your web browser, however doing so may restrict your ability to access some webpages.

Cookies may store the following information: session (numbered key) and duration. A numbered key is a unique server generated number used to identify the current session.

Personal information
If personal information is collected via the website this will be done by sufficiently secure means.

Individuals will be provided with alternative means of providing personal information to the Foundation, other than via the website.

The Melanoma Foundations website contains links to other sites. The Foundation is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such websites.

2. Use of personal information
Personal information you supply online will be used by Foundation staff in conducting the business of the Foundation. Such uses include matters related to fundraising and the dissemination of information.

Contact information from the website is used to get in touch with the visitor to the website when necessary, for example when the visitor is requesting a publication or seeking information about an fundraising event. For certain areas of the site a user's details will be published when they are indicated to be the contact person for a particular event.

3. Disclosure of personal information
The Melanoma Foundation will not disclose personal information concerning you, including your email address, to parties outside the Foundation except in accordance with its Privacy Policy above which conforms to the requirements of the NSW Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act.

4. Data quality/access
The Melanoma Foundation will always try to maintain accurate, complete and up-to-date information. The necessary procedures are in place to facilitate amendments and verification of personal information.
